Why No Time Management Is Bad For Business

drowning in work

Not all activities are 100% productive in business, but they have to be done nevertheless. Because of these “lesser” jobs like reporting, time sheet filling, etc., a lot of employees complain that they do not have enough time in the day to finish everything. In reality, all that really is needed is learning how to use time more effectively.

What separates the employees that are on top of their game to those who do their work as it comes their way is projection. In other words, already knowing how they are going to use the next day to their advantage and be as effective as possible. This anticipation goes a long way and can save countless hours in the workplace. Going further, making a list and getting everything into place for that next day is even better.

Average employees tend to wait and see how time is evolving around them to guage whether or not they will be able to complete a task. They also let other people and things affect how their time is spent, such as with social media and talkative or gossipy coworkers.

The trick is to be disciplined. All employees know that they have to finish certain unwanted tasks sooner or later but never really get around to doing them on time for a multitude of possible reasons. This ends up taking a bite out of your sales, since doing things like seeking more clients or making the experience of existing clients more enjoyable goes on the back burner too. Client-based businesses should especially heed this advice for obvious reasons.

To put it in perspective, take a window of one hour. Disciplined employees have already established what they are going to do with that hour and are already underway with their work. Not so disciplined employees will spend that hour trying to think of what to do for the next hour. It becomes so easy to see where time is being wasted and how it can negatively affect business.

Knowing how to use your time is extremely important in the business world. It is a key factor that allows one to move up the ladder as well, so be sure to keep that in mind come performance review time. What kinds of tricks do you take advantage of (if any) to help you manage your time better?
