Let’s take a look at some guidelines to becoming a successful company. Only start a company if it’s something you truly love and are passionate about. If you’re thinking of ways to safely fail then you’re not passionate enough about it. Only hire people that you believe will truly love working there and have the same passion as you about the company. I have seen too many people miserable in their job and it reflects on the people they come in contact with and will hurt your business.

You need to have a clear idea of what is going to make your company money and how that will actually be accomplished. You need to establish your core competencies and then you need to be really good at them. You also need to hire the right people for these core competencies. Outside of this group you need to get people that will fit into the culture of your company and aren’t as expensive to pay.

Keep an open environment in your office space, locked doors are for bathrooms if a person wants privacy. The only way to really keep on the pulse of your company is that everybody is out in the open working together. Be very cautious of empire building executives as they will completely and utterly polluted your company. Stick to using technology that you are familiar with, and ensure that your employees use the technology that they are familiar with.

If you do not want to have politics in your organization, avoid having managers that report to managers. It’s a sure way to fail. More sound advice is to avoid hiring PR firms. Public relations firms can never take the place of hearing from an actual employee, so make sure you provide them with a way to contact you.

People will love to come to work if work is fun. Keep a close eye on your work force and the stress levels in your organization. Do not be afraid to reward your employees for doing a great job as recognition goes a long way. You need to think ahead of time about how you’re going to reward your employees, then be consistent.
